LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS STAR DIES

Movie star and director MEL WELLES has died at a hospital in Virginia after suffering heart failure. He was 81.

The character actor appeared in many movies and directed B-movies in Europe, but he's best known for his role as florist GRAVIS MUCHNIK in ROGER CORMAN's 1960 movie THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, in which he starred opposite an aspiring actor called JACK NICHOLSON.

Welles also wrote the UNABRIDGED HIPTIONARY to help film fans follow the dialogue of another Corman classic, ROCK ALL NIGHT, in which he also starred as SIR BOP.

Cindy Sheehan Returns to Texas Protest

Cindy Sheehan, the mother of slain soldier Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, returned to Crawford, Texas, Wednesday to continue her protest of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq.

Sheehan, who first camped outside the president's ranch Aug. 6, had left Crawford for California to take care of her mother who had suffered a stroke, the Associated Press reports.

Sheehan told reporters that even while she was away, part of her remained at Camp Casey, named in honor of her son. "This is where I belong, until Aug. 31, like I told the president," Sheehan said.

She first came to Texas alone to call attention to what she claimed was the president's mishandling of the war. Sheehan, who had previously met with Bush after her son's death last year, was seeking a new audience with the president, who was vacationing at his ranch for the month of August.

Her cause soon began drawing protesters from around the country, as polls showing the public's dissatisfaction with the war continued to rise.

On Sunday, folk singer Joan Baez joined the protest – which had grown to include hundreds of supporters – for a free performance.

Not everyone agrees with Sheehan's efforts, however. Some residents of Crawford have complained about the influx of people in their sleepy town, and a group called Move America Forward was en route to Texas from California to stage a pro-Bush rally Saturday.

Is Britney Spears a bigamist?

No fairy-tale marriage for Jennifer GarnerBritney_hmed_1p.jpg

A British talk-show host is claiming that he legally married the singer — and even though the nuptials were obviously a prank, he’s saying the vows may actually be binding.

British TV host Richard Bacon alleges that he legally tied the knot with Spears while interviewing her in a hotel room for the U.K. morning show “The Big Breakfast.”

“It was the first time she’d told anyone she’d split with [Justin] Timberlake and I had a bit of plan, as I had hoped to get the admission out of her about the split,” Bacon, who also has a British radio show, told his listeners. “I had a vicar waiting round the corner with a real marriage certificate. I went down on one knee in front of her and said ‘Would you marry me?’ and she said ‘Hey sure.’” Bacon says he called in the vicar, who had a legitimate marriage certificate, and they both signed it.

Movie Review: Supercross

Note to prospective parents: If you're going to name that little bundle of joy-riding Trip or K.C. or Rowdy or Piper, you might as well stock that crib with WD-40. They're gonna be motorheads.
Those are the highly original monikers slapped on the boys and girls of the biker world in Supercross, a cheerful slice of testosteroni cheese about competitive motorcycle racing.

These youngsters were born to ride. Or at least named to ride.

K.C., played by Steve Howey of TV's "Reba," is an aspiring supercross star. Trip, played by Mike Vogel of "Grounded for Life" and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, is his punk younger brother.

Plot Summary: From the producer of "Shrek" and "Shrek 2," comes this high-flying computer-animated comedy-adventure tale of a brave-but-undersized pigeon named Valiant (voiced by Ewan McGregor), who dreams of joining the elite Royal Homing Pigeon Service (RHPS), and serving crown and country during World War II. Despite his small stature, Valiant's ambitions are enormous as he keeps a stiff upper beak and endures rigorous training in preparation for a dangerous mission to deliver vital messages to troops behind enemy lines. With a shortage of wingpower in the royal fleet due to increased attacks by a brigade of vicious enemy falcons (led by the ruthless General Von Talon), the mission falls to Valiant and the unlikely heroes of "Squad F" to try and save the day. With a wing and a prayer, Valiant and his fine feathered pals fly into harm's way and prove that it's not the size of the wingspan that counts, but the size of the spirit. Filled with adventure, comedy and memorable characters, "Valiant" delivers great entertainment for audiences of all ages. John Cleese, Tim Curry, Jim Broadbent, and an all-star vocal cast of British favorites also add to the fun and excitement of this imaginative feature. The film was inspired by the fact that pigeons saved thousands of lives during the war, and 31 of the 53 top honors given to animal heroes went to pigeons.
